Good Sleep Requires Shiny Shoes - Life and Leadership Lessons Learned the hard way

Over the past 31+ years, Chief Pegg has led and managed some of the largest and most complex fire service organizations in North America and served as the Incident Commander for the largest declared emergency in Toronto’s history.

He is regarded as an extraordinary leader, especially under pressure, and as someone whose ability to convey a sense of calm during crisis is both uncommon and exceptional.

In this candid, raw and inspiring presentation, Chief Pegg will share some of the most important lessons he has learned, both as a leader and an Incident Commander, and will help you to be prepared to lead when it matters most.

Matthew Pegg is a Canadian firefighter currently serving as the fourth and current chief of Toronto Fire Services (TFS) since May 2016. Chief Pegg was also appointed general manager of emergency management for the City of Toronto in 2018. In March 2020, Chief Pegg, as the general manager of the Toronto Office of Emergency Management, was appointed to lead the City of Toronto's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the incident commander for the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the development and operation of the most complex incident management system in Toronto's history, including the longest-ever continuous deployment of the Emergency Operations Centre.
