NFPA 14, 13 and 25, 2020 Edition: Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Standpipe Systems and Pressure reducing devices


This session will examine the requirements for inspection, testing, and maintenance of standpipe systems according to the 2020 edition of NFPA 25.  The presenters will discuss key equipment installed on standpipe systems and how it should be tested. There will be a discussion on evaluating test results and how to classify conditions that could impact the performance of the standpipe system. There will also be a discussion on potential changes to NFPA 25 and NFPA 14 that could impact future standpipe testing. We discuss how pressure reducing devices shall be installed, designed and tested.




Johnathan Carl, CET

Johnathan is a Senior Fire Protection Application Specialist at Victaulic. Johnathan holds multiple NICET certifications and multiple NFPA certifications. Johnathan has over 25 years in the Fire Protection Industry as a Sprinklerfitter, Project Manager, and lead inspector. Johnathan has served as a Captain for the South Whitehall Fire Department Engine 32 for 16 years and has also served as the AHJ for the Flakeboard/ Arauco plant in Moncure, North Carolina. Johnathan currently serves on NFPA 14 and 420 as a principal committee member,  a former NFPA 13 alternate member. Johnathan services the NFSA/ NFPA 25 task force committee. Johnathan has delivered multiple Fire Protection seminars and training throughout the United States, South America, and Canada. Johnathan is member of NFPA, NFSA, ASCET, NICET and AFSA.
