Session 10
"Watering Down" Danger: A Deep Dive into Miscible Flammable Liquids and the Ontario Fire Code
This presentation offers a comprehensive evaluation of the recent amendments to the Ontario Fire Code concerning water-miscible flammable liquids. The presentation will incorporate case studies of alternative solutions necessitated prior to the Code's revision, provide a summary of parallel regulations (with consideration for FM standards and the National Canadian Codes), and specifically address real-world industrial applications for prevalent water-miscible liquids such as methanol (windshield washer fluid) and ethanol (manufacturing and laboratories). Attendees can expect to better understand what water-miscible liquids are, where they are likely to be found in design projects and permits, and how to navigate the fire safety requirements for these common products.
