John Adam Gales, PhD., P.Eng, Associate Professor of Fire Safety Engineering, York University
Dr. John Gales is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at York University in Toronto, Canada, where he leads the Fire Safety Engineering Research Group. He also holds visiting and adjunct positions at several institutions, including Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Queen’s University, University of Waterloo, and Carleton University. His research focuses on resilient structural fire design and human behavior in emergencies, with international collaborations in New Zealand, the UK, and the USA. He has secured over $2.8 million in research funding and contributed approximately 240 scientific publications. Dr. Gales actively serves on multiple professional committees, including CSA, NSERC, and editorial boards for leading fire safety journals.
